Time Management Skills
The phrase “time management” refers to the way that you organize and plan how much time you spend on different activities. Here are some basic strategies that will help you to manage your time.
1. Prioritize
Write down all of your tasks. Divide them into categories by importance, or rank them. Do the important and most time consuming things first.
2. Use a Planning Tool
Whether you go electronic with an App on your Smartphone, or the old school paper calendar version, these are the best tools to help you manage your time.
3. Try to be Flexible
Be flexible with your schedule when possible. There are always things that come up that will force you to reschedule, if your schedule is too tight, you won't find room to fit things in.
4. Get Organized
Time management and organization go hand-in-hand. Each will help with the other.
5. Seek Help
If you need help, ask for it. People aren't mind readers, and most people will be more than happy to help if you ask them.
6. The "Two Minute Rule"
If it takes less than 2 minutes, do it right now. In the time it takes you to think about doing something and then think of an excuse to not do it, you could be done!
7. Fight Procrastination
It is a great feeling to be prepared and ready and not have things looming over your head. Take big tasks and break them into smaller more manageable pieces. Think about how nice it will be to relax knowing your work is already done!
